trawling tumblr via seed capsules....

In January I started a tumblr site called Seed Capsules to archive images, paintings, text and ideas I liked... the name 'seed capsules' could be taken literally or metaphorically. Here i'm sharing images that connect well with the purposes of this blog... but if you go exploring ... beware ...there is so much to see that you could easily beome lost! Archives might help.... click here for that visual treat.

This Is Important, You Should Know About It of the Day: 53-year-old Ai Weiwei — an outspoken critic of the Chinese government and by all accounts China’s best-known artist (previously) — is missing and his whereabouts are unknown after he was detained by police at Beijing Capital International Airport.
In addition to his sudden disappearance, Ai’s studio in north Beijing was raided and over 30 computers were confiscated. Ai’s wife Lu Qing was also detained, but was released after questioning. “They asked me about Ai Weiwei’s work and the articles he posted online … I told them that everything that Ai did was very public, and if they wanted to know his opinions and work they could just look at the internet,” she told the Associated Press.
According to The Guardian, Beijing police claim they know nothing about Ai, and an airport police spokesman was similarly mum. Ai’s arrest is reportedly part of a wider government crackdown on dissidents in which several have been criminally detaining, arrested for incitement, or disappeared.

  2. just this week I joined tumblr... (I'm bookron.tumblr.com)

how I got there was rather weird.... through the week I had a very strange spike on an old blogger post of mine that I couldn't figure out.... turned out that a pic of one of my book pieces had gone viral in tumblr...

I took it as a sign that I should work out what tumblr is and if it had anything to offer to my arts practice... so I'm playing - trying out tumblr to see how it works as a repository for research bits (hmmmmm could be a very nasty time trap if you don't use extreme discipline!)

(ps funnily enough one of the first tumblr folk I noticed in there was you!)

  3. Rosaria,
    Glad you were inspired Rosaria!
Delighted to have you share this... your approach is always sincere and generous!
    thank you!

    Hi Ronnie,
thats a great story... and so how it is with on-line presence in that you could never pick the moment or the image that would go off like that... but seeing it did.... wohooo... run with.... its fabulous.
I love your new tumblr... and its a fantastic image...BRAVO!

I must say that I am often very lazy with tumblr... simply pass through and hit reblog. I have more than enough on my hands to "curate" a few other sites....
so I am deliberate about alllowing tumblr to remain a scrapbook... albeit a very valuable repository for my purposes. Ive always kept journals and such ,... extensively and intensively over 35 years... so that is happening less with Tumblr around... but its a diffferent phase for me and it suits!

The other thing is it allows me to think deeply about my work in a whole other way.... timing is right... you put in as much as you want....its ticks over and does not demand!

    great to hear from you!
    Sophie

ps I had something spike... odd ....it was a quote and it went crazy with the 20 + age-group. Really made me think about that generatin and what they are seeking!
